New Bladder Cancer Support Group Meets Sept. 23 at Wilmot Cancer Center

Internationally renowned bladder cancer expert Edward M. Messing, M.D., will lead a discussion about the disease and treatments at the first meeting of a new support group at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. The group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the Luellen Patient and Family Resource Center.
Messing is chair of Urology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and conducts extensive research into the detection, treatment and survival of bladder cancer.
Bladder cancer is diagnosed in about 71,000 people in the United States each year. It is more common among men than women and more common among whites than blacks.. Nearly 90 percent of people with this cancer are over the age of 55.
Future topics include nutrition, ostomy care, clinical trials, stress management and surgical options for treatment.
