Oct. 1 Performance Shows Humor Can be Best Medicine
It doesn’t take a doctor to tell you that humor and laughter are powerful medicine. Local comedienne Phyl Contestable could cure your ills and make you laugh until your sides hurt when she performs as “Reverend Mother” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, to support the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. The performance will be at the University of Rochester Alumni and Advancement Center Auditorium, 300 East River Road.
Contestable dons the habit of a Vatican II nun as the “Reverend Mother.” It’s a role she learned as a Catholic schoolgirl, perfected when she was a member of the Sisters of Mercy. After Contestable left the convent, she brought the role on stage during the long-running musical, “Nunsense.”
The singing nun, who is also a Churchville schoolteacher, has been performing throughout the area and across the country for years, poking fun at anything and everything for a laugh.
For added fun, VIP tickets are available for anyone who wants to be “roasted” or have the comedienne poke fun at someone else during the show. The $35 tickets, which include a wine and cheese reception before the show, are available by calling the Wilmot Cancer Center Advancement Office at (585) 276-4717.
General admission tickets are $15 and available at area Wegmans Food Markets
