Pittsford Little League Hits Homeruns for Hope
Many parents cherish memories of seeing their child bravely step up to bat, wearing a hat two sizes too big at the first Little League game of the season. This year, thanks to the Pittsford Little League’s Homeruns for Hope Campaign, those special moments will leave a lasting impact on our community.
The fundraising initiative will benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center and the league’s Russ Smith Scholarship Fund, which provides two college scholarships in honor of Russ Smith, a local community leader and advocate for Pittsford Little League. Those who sponsor the campaign are asked to provide a monetary donation for every homerun hit during the regular season.
“By teaming up with Golisano Children’s Hospital, we’re really able to mirror that sense of community leadership that Russ Smith embodied so well,” said Terrance O’Grady, organizer of the campaign. O’Grady hopes this fundraiser will help benefit the two organizations as well as motivate kids to improve their game.
“We’re trying to encourage our kids to really swing for the fences this year, in more ways than one,” said O’Grady. He added that players can build character, in knowing the effort they put into playing will directly benefit two great causes, while building their skills on the field as well.
Sponsorship pledges will be accepted until Tuesday, May 15. For more information on Homeruns for Hope, please visit http://homerunsforhope.pittsfordlittleleague.org or email O’Grady at togger63@aol.com.
