Roc City Rib Fest Brings Home the Bacon

Enjoying barbeque ribs outdoors is one of the iconic introductions to summer. Organizers of the third annual Roc City Rib Fest would like to invite people to sit back, relax and let someone else to the cooking on Memorial Weekend. The four-day event, which will take place 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, May 28; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 29; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 30; and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 31, at Ontario Beach Park has become a world-class competition for barbeque gurus and a delightfully delicious event for the public.
The Rib Fest offers excitement for everyone for families looking to enjoy the long Memorial Day weekend around Rochester and will also bring in tourists and competitors from across the Northeast. Nearly 100 competitors from at least 15 states and Canada will take part in up to three different competitions spanning over three days, including Kansas City Society’s barbeque competition. The winner of this competition will have a chance to compete in the Jack Daniels 2010 World Championship Invitational Barbeque. The winner of last year’s world championship will compete at the Roc City Rib Fest again this year.
The event, which has been expanded from two to four days this year, will provide entertainment, food, beverages and children’s activities for festival-goers. More than a dozen bands with varied musical styles including funk, country, rock and the blues, will play throughout the weekend. To see the musical line-up, visit http://bit.ly/RibFestMusic.
Carlson MetroCenter YMCA will provide an expanded Kids’ Fun Zone for children at the event. In addition to a bounce house and obstacle course, there will be numerous games, activities and arts and crafts for kids. The Fun Zone activities will be open to children at no extra charge.
The entrance fee is only $5 for adults and children older than 12 and free for children younger than 12. A portion of proceeds will benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
