Sept. 7 Junior Builders’ Golf Tournament Benefits Mary Parkes Asthma Center

The Rochester Junior Builders’ Exchange hosts its 22nd annual charity golf tournament to benefit UR Medicine’s Mary Parkes Center for Asthma, Allergy and Pulmonary Care on Thursday, Sept. 7, at Victor Hills Golf Club.
The scramble begins with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m., and includes breakfast, lunch and a steak dinner. There will be a variety of silent auction prizes and 13WHAM’s Doug Emblidge will serve as master of ceremonies.
“We are proud to support the Mary Parkes Center for Asthma, Allergy and Pulmonary Care because it is a tremendous asset to our community and region,” said Mark Mancuso, chair of the Junior Builders’ Exchange (JBX) board of directors.
The center is named for a young woman who died during a severe asthma episode. Parents Walter and Carmina Parkes and their children, Susan, Tom and Linda, were driven to open the first asthma center in the region. The center provides outstanding patient care using cutting-edge technology and contributes to advances in care as clinicians and scientists conduct novel research toward new therapies.
Working closely with the Parkes family, the JBX has seen the tournament grow from raising $4,000 in its first year to more than $200,000 last year.
“This is clearly one of the largest tournaments in the area. We sell out two golf courses quickly and are always happy to see such support and commitment from the builders in our area,” Mancuso said.
