"A Christmas Story" Play Benefits Patient Fund, Spinal Cord Injuries

Get into the holiday spirit early this year with the Friends of Strong’s 30th anniversary celebration. Friends of Strong will celebrate with a dessert reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by a live performance of "A Christmas Story" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Geva Theatre Center.
Friends of Strong is the volunteer department for Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). The department has more than 1,300 volunteers who donate their time at the hospital, providing patients with extra comfort and support. Friends of Strong holds several fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for programs within the hospital. The 30th anniversary celebration will benefit two causes: the Rotenberg Patient Advocate Fund of Strong Memorial Hospital and spinal cord injury treatment in honor of Bradford C. Berk, M.D., Ph.D.
The Rotenberg Patient Advocate Fund, which began in 2001 with an initial gift from Clare and Jerald Rotenberg, provides funds to Strong Memorial patients and families with significant financial needs who are unable to afford items that may contribute to their care. The Rotenbergs hope to improve the physical and emotional well being of patients by alleviating some of their financial issues.
The fundraiser will also benefit spinal cord injury treatment at the Neurosurgery Department at URMC. The department provides treatment and performs surgeries for patients in Central and Western New York with neurosurgical and neuromedical disorders. Faculty offer patients world-class care supplemented with kindness and compassion.
Tickets to the celebration are $25 for orchestra left and right, $35 for balcony seats and $65 for orchestra center. Monetary donations are also accepted. Children under 5 are not permitted in the theatre. For more information or to order tickets, call (585) 275-2420.
