Step it Up for a Cure 5K Walk Nov. 7 Supports Pancreatic Cancer Research
Hundreds of people who have been touched by pancreatic cancer, one of the most challenging cancers, will gather Sunday at University of Rochester’s Goergen Field House to raise funds for local research at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. The Step it up for a Cure, the Path is Research Walk begins at 1:30 p.m.
Organizers Judy Rockafellow, Lynn Platt and Mary Pettinaro each lost loved ones to the disease and are committed to raising awareness of the disease and funding for research for a cure. They want to turn their loss into hope for others who are facing the disease today.
The funds will support research by oncologist Aram Hezel, M.D., at the Wilmot Cancer Center. He is a translational researcher studying new avenues to better understand the mechanisms of the disease and leads a robust clinical trials program to assess new agents to treat the tumors.
