Strong West to Debut Surgical Center Next Week

Aug. 26, 2014

UR Medicine’s Strong West in Brockport will open a new Ambulatory Surgical Center next week after having received approval from the New York State Department of Health. The first surgeries are scheduled to begin Sept. 2.

The center is located in renovated space at the West Avenue facility that formerly housed Lakeside Memorial Hospital’s birthing center and operating rooms. It is overseen by medical director Krystof J. Neumann, M.D., and nurse director Kathaleen Adamczyk, M.S.N. B.S.N. R.N., and includes 15 beds, three updated operating rooms and two procedure rooms. Same-day surgeries – offered by specialists in Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Urology and others – will be performed by physicians from UR Medicine and community physicians.

Strong Memorial Hospital officials have been working with the state DOH to approve the project, which returns surgical services to the Brockport area. Lakeside Memorial closed its doors in April 2013, forcing local surgeons to schedule procedures for their patients at facilities in Rochester.

Strong West opened one year ago, on Sept. 3, 2013. It now consists of the new Strong West Emergency, which began seeing patients last week and restored emergency services to the community, as well as Imaging, Lab, Primary Care, Orthopaedics, Cardiac, Neurology, Urology, Oncology/Hematology, and Occupational Medicine, and Strong Urgent Care in Spencerport.
