Tim Milgate Golf Fundraiser Celebrates its Last Year

Jul. 5, 2011
Event has raised more than $225,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital
Giana Bisnett is this year's "inspiration child."

The Tim Milgate Charity Golf Tournament will hold its 12th and final tournament Monday, Aug. 1, at the Deerfield Country Club in Brockport. Over the years, more than $250,000 has been raised for local charities with over $225,000 directly designated to Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Deb Milgate-Moyer started the fundraiser because she wanted to do something for the community in memory of her brother, Tim Milgate. Milgate was murdered in his home in Greece on June 27, 1995. No one has been convicted for the crime. His case remains open and is being very actively pursued by the Greece Police Department.

“We can’t thank Deb enough for all the time and energy she’s put into the event over the years,” said Michael Fahy, assistant director of Advancement at Golisano Children’s Hospital. “We’re sad that this tournament will be her last, but are so appreciative of all the commitment and hard work she’s put into turning a tragic incident into such a positive act for the community.”

In addition to raising funds for Golisano Children’s Hospital, the event also helps an “inspiration child.” Each year, a child who has been treated by Golisano Children’s Hospital’s services is chosen. In the past, families have been given ramps, educational funds and renovations to make a family van wheelchair accessible. This year’s inspiration child is Giana Bisnett, a beautiful 3-year-old girl with spina bifida. Her family has requested help getting a wheelchair-accessible van.
