UR Medicine Hosts Bladder Health Information Event November 9

Oct. 24, 2016
Participants will learn signs, symptoms, and treatment options for bladder health problems
Gunhilde Buchsbaum, M.D., M.B.A.

November is Bladder Health Awareness Month, and UR Medicine is hosting an informational session for women of all ages to talk about how they can maintain or regain their bladder health. The event is 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Women’s Health Pavilion, 500 Red Creek Drive, Rochester.

Bladder problems are very common, but many women are reluctant to discuss them with their doctor. A number of factors – pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease – can lead to bladder issues for women. These include urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, urinary tract infections, and interstitial cystitis. Bladder health problems can have a significant impact on a woman's overall health and quality of life.

UR Medicine’s Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Disorder Alliance wants women to know that there are many proactive steps they can take to support bladder health, including lifestyle changes, modifying their diet, simple exercises to strengthen pelvic floor muscles. And, there are many effective non-surgical and surgical treatments that can resolve bladder problems or make them more manageable.

At the Nov. 9 event, Gunhilde Buchsbaum, M.D.,, M.B.A., Professor and Director of Urogynecology at UR Medicine, and a team of physicians and nurse practitioners will present information and answer questions on the signs, symptoms, and treatment options to maintain bladder health. The event is free and light refreshments will be served.

To register or for more information, call (585) 275-URMC (8762). Walk-ins are welcome.
