URMC Deaf Health Research Group Launches Online Directory

The National Center for Deaf Health Research (NCDHR), at the University of Rochester, is introducing an online resource and referral directory for deaf and hard-of-hearing people, as well as their families, friends, co-workers, and those who provide professional services.
The directory is a free, searchable community resource available through the NCDHR website: www.urmc.edu/ncdhr. The goal is to provide information for individuals who rely on accessible communication accommodations, such as American Sign Language (ASL) and Video Relay Interpreting (VRI). The directory provides a description of each program or service listed, contact information, driving directions and more.
The NCDHR is still seeking agencies and other resources to add to the listing. Qualifying services include such things as health care and human services, places of worship, entertainment and recreation, housing, and transportation.
The NCDHR will officially announce the new directory at an open house from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at its offices, 120 Corporate Woods, Suite 350, Rochester. Questions should be directed to Matthew J. Starr, MPH, communication team leader at NCDHR. Matthew_Starr@urmc.rochester.edu
