URMC Expert to Give Free Talk on Alzheimer's Treatment Strategies

Anton P. Porsteinsson, M.D., director of the University of Rochester’s Alzheimer’s Disease Care, Research and Education Program, and its Memory Disorders Clinic, will present a free talk from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the Hahnemann Club, 301 Stoutenburgh Lane, located on the campus of The Highlands at Pittsford.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common memory disease among the elderly. While several medications are already approved for its treatment, they are only of modest efficacy, and multiple new treatments are in the research and development stage. Porsteinsson’s presentation, “Future Treatment Strategies in Alzheimer’s Disease,” will cover the suspected causal factors of Alzheimer’s disease and the promise of new treatment strategies.

“Future Treatment Strategies in Alzheimer’s Disease” is second in the 10-part health and wellness series, “To Your Health!,” presented by The Highlands at Pittsford and the University of Rochester Medical Center, to inspire and educate older adults about health issues specific to their needs. The programs are taught by URMC’s faculty of distinguished physicians and other providers affiliated with the Medical Center, including Strong Memorial Hospital, the Eastman Dental Center, Visiting Nurse Service and other Medical Center affiliates.
