URMC, YMCA Offer Free Health Talks for Community

The University of Rochester Medical Center’s Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and the Eastside Family YMCA are offering free prevention and wellness talks to the community this summer.

  • “Healthy Brain Aging: The Social Effect” will feature Kim Van Orden, Ph.D., URMC Department of Psychiatry. The talk is scheduled for 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. July 12 at the Eastside Family YMCA, 1835 Fairport Nine Mile Point Road, Penfield.
  • “Nutrition for Endurance Athletes” will feature Kimberly Povek, R.D., URMC Healthy Living Center. Povek will present from 7 to 8 p.m. July 15 at the Eastside Family YMCA.
  • “Passport Health, International Travel Health and Intelligence,” presented by theUR School of Nursing. The talk is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Eastside Family YMCA.2064 Fairport Nine Mile Point Road, Penfield.
  • “ConcussionPrevention” will be hosted by Jeffrey Bazarian, M.D., URMC Departments of Emergency Medicine and Neurology; Mark H. Mirabelli, M.D., URMC Departments of Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation, and Family Medicine, and Jennifer H. Paul, M.D., of the URMC Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Orthopaedics. The event will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 20 at the URMC OrthopaedicsSports and Spine Rehabilitation Suite,
