Program Details

Our well-rounded, three-year Pediatric Gastroenterology/Nutrition Fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and provides a full understanding of the difference between normal and pathologic states relating to the gastrointestinal system.

GI Fellowship

GI Fellows: Drs. Albert Chan, Gracielle Bahia, and Imdad Ullah

Through inpatient and outpatient experiences, fellows develop expertise in the clinical diagnosis and management of acute and chronic disorders of the liver and gastrointestinal system including celiac disease, gastrointestinal allergy, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, and metabolic liver diseases. Our pediatric patients include a wide range of ages; we treat neonates, infants, children, and young adults.

Throughout training, knowledge is gained on basic principles, indications, and risks of procedures and proficiency is achieved in performing routine and advanced endoscopic procedures. Rotations with the adult GI service provide extensive experience in invasive endoscopic techniques.

Fellows have the opportunity to collaborate with investigators in the Division of Gastroenterology/Nutrition, the Department of Pediatrics, and across the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) depending on their individual research interests. Our division is currently conducting clinical research on a variety of disorders including inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and pancreatic dysfunction.
