Dr. Wayne Lipschitz

Dr. Wayne Lipschitz - General Dentist 
Director, University Dental Faculty Group

Dr. Lipschitz has been with the Faculty Group for 18 years, treating patients in all aspects of general dental care. A native of South Africa where he earned his dental degree, he is a proud alum of Eastman Institute for Oral Health's Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. He is an associate professor of Clinical Dentistry and provides operating room care for patients with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Dr. Patricia Carlson

Dr. Patricia Carlson - General Dentist
As a practicing dentist for 17 years, Dr. Carlson is a faculty member with EIOH's General Practice Residency program. She completed her post-graduate work at Eastman Institute for Oral Health, and remains active in local and national dental assocaitions, attends study clubs, conferences and symposiums every year. She has been living in Rochester for 11 years and enjoys music and the arts.


Dr. Sharon Elad Dr. Sharon Elad - General Dentist & Oral Medicine
Dr. Elad holds joint appointments as a professor in Dentistry and Oncology at the University of Rochester, where she is chair of the EIOH Oral Medicine Division. Previously, Dr. Elad held leadership positions at the Hebrew University - Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in the Dept. of Oral Medicine, and the General Secretary for the International Society of Oral Oncology.
Dr. Carlo Ercoli

Dr. Carlo Ercoli - Prosthodontist, Periodontist

Dr. Ercoli is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, member of numerous professional organizations and Past President of the American Prosthodontic Society.

A native of Italy where he earned his dental degree, Dr. Ercoli continued his advanced training in Prosthodontics Temporomandibular Joint Disorders and Periodontology. He is Chairman and Program Director of the Prosthodontic Postgraduate Training Program at EIOH.

Dr. Ercoli is internationally published in prosthodontics and implant dentistry and has lectured locally, nationally and internationally. He enjoys treating patients and his double specialization in Periodontics and Prosthodontics allows him to be your expert for simple as well as complex esthetic, reconstructive and implants needs.

Dr. Joseph Fantuzzo

Dr. Joseph J. Fantuzzo - Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
As a dentist and medical doctor, Joseph Fantuzzo, DDS, MD, brings a unique perspective to his patients. His advanced education spans many years in general surgery, adult and pediatric anesthesia, and craniofacial procedures. A board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Fantuzzo also serves as chair and residency program director for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Division at EIOH. His professional interests include orthognathic surgery, dentoalveolar surgery, including managing impacted teeth, dental implant placement and related procedures, facial trauma, pathology, cleft-craniofacial surgery and surgical management of obstructive sleep apenea.

Dr. Sangeeta Gajendra

Dr. Sangeeta Gajendra - General Dentist
Dr. Gajendra wants her patients to have a positive and stress-free experience during dental treatment. An EIOH alum, she is passionate about dentistry and stays abreast of the latest techniques and technology by attending and presenting at various major national, state and local conferences. Dr. Gajendra, who hails from Mumbai, India, has a strong interest in dental research, particularly smoking cessation. She also serves as clincial chief in EIOH's Community Dentistry and Oral Disease Prevention. She loves Rochester winters and enjoys traveling, and engaging in art projects.

Dr. Kopycka

Dr. Dorota Kopycka-Kedzierawski - General Dentist
Dr. Kopycka-Kedzierawski has been practicing dentistry for 20 years. She provides comprehensive dental care to patients with a variety of dental needs. She serves as Deputy Director for the North-East Region of the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network. Her research interests include oral epidemiology, cariology and teledentistry. A native of Poland, Dr. Kopycka-Kedzierawski and her family have been in Rochester for 17 years. She enjoys spending time with her son and husband, traveling, reading and gardening. 

Dr. Hans Malmstrom

Dr. Hans Malmstrom - General Dentist
For more than 25 years, Dr. Malmstrom has been treating patients, working to help ease the nerves of those who are fearful. He is chair of Eastman Dental's General Dentistry Division and Program Director of its related residency program. He has significant clinical and research experience in many areas but his focus is on comprehensive care, including root canals, periodontal and prosthontics procedures with a special interest in cosmetic dentistry (porcelain veneers, crowns and composite bonding), and implant dentistry.

Dr. McLaren Dr. Sean McLaren - Pediatric Dentist
Dr. McLaren grew up in Greece, NY. After graduating from SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, he furthered his training in a two-year General Practice Residency program at Strong Hospital and a Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at Eastman Dental. He is a Board certified pediatric dentist and is the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program Director at EIOH. Dr. McLaren treats patients at our faculty practice at Clinton Crossings, in the operating room at Sawgrass Surgical Center, and medically compromised patients in the operating room at Strong Memorial Hospital.  Dr. McLaren lives in Greece with his wife and their two young children.

Dr. Cyril Meyerowitz

Dr. Cyril Meyerowitz- General Dentist
Dr Cyril Meyerowitz  is Professor and Director Emeritus of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health. His practice includes the full range of general dentistry, including patients who are medically compromised and are anxious. He has been active in national dental professional associations including chairing the American Dental Association’s Council on Dental Education and Licensure and sitting as a commissioner on the Council on Dental Accreditation. He is a recipient of the Merit award from the 7th District Dental Society and the NY Dental Foundation's Research Achievement Award. He is the Regional Director of the NIH funded National Dental Practice Based Research Northeast region and lectures extensively on practice-based research. Dr. Meyerowitz is an avid golfer, hiker and loves classical music.

Dr. Pollan

Dr. Lee Pollan - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. Pollan is a Clinical Professor of Dentistry and OMFS at UR School of Medicine and Dentistry, SMH and EIOH. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of OMFS, and has served as the program's Chair and Program Director. An active participant and  past president of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dr. Pollan has lectured nationally and internationally. His areas of interest include anesthesia issues, TMD management, orthognathic surgery, chronic obstructive sleep apnea and dento-alveolar surgery.

James Romano, DDS, MPH, has 30 years of experience practicing general dentistry in Rochester. His areas of interest are implant and restorative dentistry. Dr. Romano prides himself on listening to his patients and caring for their needs.
Dr. Paul Romano

Dr. Paul Romano - Periodontist
A Board Certified Periodontist and Clinical Associate Professor, Dr. Romano has been with UDFG since 1999. The Rochester native received advanced specialty training in Periodontics at Eastman Institute for Oral Health, and earned a master's degree from the UR. He is especially interested in diagnosing and managing periodontal disease, treating gingival recession and placing dental implants. A native of Rochester, he and his wife Michele live in Penfield.

It's good news that people are living longer and keeping their teeth more than ever before. Dr. Saunders' career has focused on caring for the oral health of older adults. He is actively involved in the practice, education and research related to geriatric dentistry.

Dr. Edward Sommers - Orthodontist
Dr. Sommers has been practicing Orthodontics in Rochester for more than 25 years. Following a tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corp, he attended Eastman Dental where he received his advanced training in Orthodontics. He is an associate clinical professor there and has been affiliated with the University Dental Faculty Group since 2007.  Dr. Sommers is a member of the International College of Dentistry and has lectured around the world. He lives with his wife and son in Fairport.


Dr. Ross Tallents Dr. Ross Tallents - TMJ Specialist
Dr. Tallents is one of the area's leaders in diagnosing and treating TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) disorders.  In addition to practicing with the Faculty Group, he is a professor in the EIOH Orthodontics and Prosthodontics Division and program director of the Orofacial Pain program. Havng co-published 149 publications, Dr. Tallents' research interests include diagnosis and management of patients with TMJ disorders, chronic pain mechanisms for managing orofacial pain and systemic musculoskeletal pains, sleep disorders and familial genetics of cleft lip and palate.
Dr. Gene Watson Dr. Gene Watson - General Dentist/Salivary Dysfunction
Dr. Watson, who has been with the Faculty Group for more than 20 years, has special interests in research, specifically salivary dysfunction (dry mouth), dental caries, and the pharmacological and toxicological properties of dental drugs and materials. He has published and lectured nationally and internationally, and has served as a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs.  He has overseen numerous human clinical trials and observational studies. In addition to Dentistry, Dr. Watson is jointly appointed in the Department of Environmental Medicine and the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Dr. Robert Berkowitz - Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Berkowitz is an internationally recognized expert on dental decay in infants, toddlers and preschool children (Early Childhood Caries/ ECC). He has been invited to lecture on this subject at prestigious national and international conferences and has published extensively. He has over 30 years of experience in the clinical management of ECC and is Professor of Dentistry and Pediatrics at the URMC.

Dr. Huang Dr. Chia Taw (CT) Huang - Pediatric Dentist
Dr. Huang received his training in Pedodontics (now known as Pediatric Dentistry) at Eastman Dental and later earned a Master’s of Science in Dentistry through the University of Rochester. After 20 years of private practice, Dr. Huang became committed to the mission of Eastman Institute for Oral Health and become a pediatric dentistry educator. He has focused his faculty role in some of the most underserved populations of our society through EIOH's Community Dentistry Oral Disease and Prevention Division. Dr. Huang is an accomplished singer and is a member of both his church and community choirs.
Dr. Lisa DeLucia

Dr. Lisa DeLucia - Pediatric Dentist

After graduating magna cum laude from dental school, she received pediatric dentistry training at Childrens Hospital Boston and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She is a diplomate and fellow of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is faculty with the Pediatric Dentistry Divison at Eastman Dental and the Leadership Education in Neurodevelpmental Disabilities (LEND) fellowship at URMC. She recently won a Golisano Leadership Award for her professional and volunteer efforts helping children with developmental differences.


Dr. Erin Shope

Dr. Erin Shope - Pediatric Dentist
Dr. Shope is committed to creating and maintaining a positive dental experience for children. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Biology from Colgate University, Dr. Shope earned her dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Eastman Institute for Oral Health.  She is a Board certified pediatric dentist and as a member of the Golisano Children's Hospital's Craniofacial Team, she especially enjoys working with children with craniofacial differences. Her passion lies in providing nasoalveolar molding (NAM) to infants with cleft lip and palate.
