Conditions We Treat

Adolescent Medicine provides consultative services to primary care physicians and sub specialists throughout Upstate New York and primary care services to parenting teens and their children. In addition, comprehensive care services for patients with eating disorders are available and are coordinated with other programs to provide the full continuum of care delivery.

We offer general adolescent health care for many conditions including:

  • Adjustment to chronic illness (diabetes, sickle cell anemia, asthma, congenital heart disease, and pain conditions)
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Behavior, family and school problems
  • Chronic or recurrent symptoms such as abdominal pain, headache and fatigue
  • Eating disorders and irregular eating patterns such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or obesity
  • Mental health issues associated with medical conditions
  • Sexuality and GLBTQ issues
  • Situational adjustment disorders
  • Substance abuse
  • Transitioning medical care to adult providers
  • Weight management

Reproductive Healthcare

In addition to our subspecialty adolescent services, we provide reproductive healthcare for young people such as:

  • Annual GYN exams
  • Contraception counseling and management
  • Emergency contraception
  • Long-acting contraception (IUDs and Implanon)
  • Ovarian cysts diagnosis and treatment
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis and treatment
  • Pregnancy testing and options counseling
  • Sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment
  • Treatment for menstrual disorders including amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea and irregular cycles
  • Vaginal discharge treatment
