Giving to Golisano Children's Hospital

Construction Corner Summer 2014

Strong Kids

ConstructionThe crane has been taken down. The brick is laid. The windows are in. From the outside, UR Medicine’s new Golisano Children’s Hospital looks almost done. In reality, a lot more work is ongoing inside, and we need the support of our generous community to help us get it done over the next 12 months.

When the new $145-million building opens in the summer of 2015, it will be attached to the University of Rochester Medical Center and Strong Memorial Hospital and will have eight floors and approximately 245,000 square feet of space. The new hospital features private rooms, more places for gathering, finding respite and playing and a whole new child-focused feel, including the building’s theme that will bring the outdoors inside.

The NICU floor is framed, drywalled and painters have started priming the “backstage” areas, those spots away from patient spaces where the noisy work of taking care of waste, linens, etc., will take place. The wood framing of the headwalls in the NICU and pediatric rooms are getting installed and bathrooms are being tiled.

ConstructionAlso coming along is the two-story playdeck with incredible views that on clear days, reach the rolling hills of the Finger Lakes. Progress on that important space will be visible through the two-story windows already in place.

Over the next two months, it’ll be difficult to drive by and see the progress going on inside our new hospital, but you can keep up to date by liking Golisano Children’s Hospital on Facebook, following the hospital on Twitter (@URMed_GCH), following the hospital on Instagram (@URMed_GCH) and subscribing to the campaign blog.

To find out how you can help support the new hospital, please call Scott Rasmussen at (585) 273-5932.
