The Growth of Surgery at Highland

“Highland is poised to grow our surgery program in breadth and depth,” said Roan J. Glocker, M.D., M.P.H., who was named Chief of Surgery at Highland in July. “We benefit by being part of the University of Rochester and we have the expertise to offer complex and high-end surgeries in a respected and trusted community hospital. This balance puts Highland in a unique position in our region.”

Highland has the capacity to offer a wide variety of surgeries and is best known for Bariatric surgery, robotic gynecologic and oncologic surgery, orthopaedics, urology, and several other specialties. Plans are underway to enhance the scope of colorectal surgery, breast surgery and vascular surgery programs.

“Highland has 17 ORs,” said Dr. Glocker, “and we strive to use our resources most efficiently so we can keep all the ORs running.  We have been working towards optimizing our scheduling and we are back to almost full staff. All of these issues are important for recruitment and retention of physicians and staff.”
