We have a team of highly trained board-certified lactation consultants and certified lactation counselors in Pediatrics and Obstetrics, with consultation from the Lactation Study Center. Review the Your Inpatient Breastfeeding Medicine Consult handout for more details.

If you are breastfeeding/lactating and require an inpatient or ER consult, please ask your nurse to page "Lactation." We are available daily from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., 365 days per year.

Outpatient Support - Consultations Before and After Birth

Are you facing challenges with breastfeeding? Or are you pregnant and trying to prepare for successful breastfeeding? UR Medicine Breastfeeding & Lactation Services is here to help. We offer consultations before and after birth to help you plan, work through problems, and meet your breastfeeding goals. You will have one-on-one consultations with board-certified lactation consultants and breastfeeding medicine providers with many years of experience.

Conditions We Treat

Lactation Medicine, or Breastfeeding Medicine, refers to the medical side of managing complicated breastfeeding and lactation problems. Our providers have advanced training in lactation, and work closely with expert board-certified lactation consultants to help you reach your goals. For instance, you may be concerned about breastfeeding on a particular medication, or you may have a preexisting condition which will require special treatment. Some people come to Lactation Medicine for breastfeeding pain, to induce lactation or for low milk supply. If you are wondering about our approach to some common or less common concerns, please see our topics, below.
