Director of Employment Programs

Overview

Marilee joined the division in August of 2022 as The Director of Employment Programs.  She brings 23 years of experience supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be included in their communities. She worked 14 years as a Transition Specialist for The Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado supporting students with significant disabilities to gain employment skills and competitive integrated employment. In 2013, she worked as the Instructor and led the implementation of the first Project SEARCH program in the state of Colorado where she used a customized employment approach to optimize employment outcomes for her students. Marilee spearheaded a grassroots effort to build a non-profit organization, The Arc of Larimer County, which provides individual and systems advocacy for people with intellectual and or developmental disabilities to be included in their community.  The Arc of Larimer County spearheaded and advocated for the first significant Employment First Legislation in Colorado SB 16-077 and SB 18-145 to be created and implemented forwarding Employment First throughout the state of Colorado.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • NY State Coordinator of Project SEARCH
  • NY State Legislative and Policy systems advocacy to increase competitive integrated employment outcomes for people with I/DD.
  • Engage with employment stakeholders and community members to advance employment initiatives for individuals with I/DD across the state of NY.
  • Director of a 3-year grant to create an apprenticeship pipeline program for young adults with I/DD in the manufacturing industry
  • Targeting grant opportunities that will inspire systems change and increase employment outcomes throughout the State of NY.
