Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship

Overview

The Flaum Eye Institute neuro-ophthalmology fellowship is a one-year medical and surgical fellowship with dedicated research time. Its goals are to:

• Prepare participants to successfully practice medical and surgical neuro-ophthalmology in private or academic settings
• Perform, present, and publish clinical and/or scientific research
• Train and mentor residents, students, and staff in neuro-ophthalmology

Fellow Schedule

Accepted applicants will follow a weekly schedule rich in clinical, surgical, and academic activities, including:

• Four days of clinic, inpatient, and emergency department consults
• One-half day OR (adult strabismus surgery and temporal arterial biopsies)
• One-half day of dedicated research

Research

Research projects can be pursued with either the neuro-ophthalmology faculty or FEI’s basic scientists (which includes one of the nation’s leading centers for neuro-vision rehabilitation).

Conferences and Teaching

Fellows will have multiple opportunities to participate in academic activities related to neuro-ophthalmology and beyond:

• Attend and present research at the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society annual meeting
• Monthly neuro-radiology conferences
• Weekly tumor board and neuro-radiology conference
• Monthly ophthalmology grand rounds
• Departmental rounds
• Biweekly neuro-ophthalmology conferences

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation and benefits are provided according to the University of Rochester School of Graduate Medical Education Schedule and Postdoctoral Benefits Summary.

Faculty

Direct faculty are from our neuro-ophthalmology service. In addition, you will interact with our more than 40 sub-specialty faculty from across every discipline of ophthalmology, as well as our colleagues throughout University of Rochester Medicine.

Accreditation and Application

The neuro-ophthalmology fellowship is accredited by the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology. Program applications can be made through the San Francisco match.
 
 Applicants should have completed an accredited residency in either ophthalmology or neurology.
