Highland Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Patient Safety

Highland Hospital received a Platinum Award for Team Excellence from the Greater Rochester Quality Council for its Orthopedic Surgical Site Infection Reduction project.

The Greater Rochester Quality Council presented the award on October 20 at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester. The project focused on addressing an upward trend in surgical site infections among patients undergoing total hip and knee replacement procedures.

Teams across Highland collaborated to identify opportunities to reduce infection risk and improve patient safety. Their efforts included improving pre-surgical patient preparation, strengthening Sterile Processing and Environmental Services (EVS) protocols, enhancing Same Day Surgery processes, and implementing additional operating room interventions.
