Breast Health Day to Focus on Screening and Staying Well

Learn what every woman should know about breast imaging, what a biopsy can tell you about breast cancer risk and what you can do to minimize your risk during Breast Health Day on Saturday, Sept. 13.
 
This half-day event, hosted by Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta, will be held at Eagle Vale Golf Club, 4344 Nine Mile Point Road in Fairport. This free event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and it includes a brunch buffet.
 
“Breast Health Day is aimed at empowering women to make good decisions about their health, to learn about the options available for breast imaging and to work with their health care providers to understand and minimize their risk for developing breast cancer,” said Kristin A. Skinner, M.D., director of Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta.
 
Speakers will include:
  • Avice M. O'Connell, M.D., FACR, Director of Women’s Imaging at UR Medicine’s Department of Imaging Sciences, who will present “Breast Imaging Basics” and discuss the importance of screening for breast cancer.
  • David G. Hicks, M.D., FACP, UR Medicine’s Director of Surgical Pathology, who will speak about benign breast conditions and how they may affect a woman’s risk of breast cancer.
  • Alissa J. Huston, M.D., medical oncologist with Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta, who will discuss how women can reduce their risk of breast cancer.
