Free Concussion Education Event Offered by URMC

Medical experts to address athletes, parents, coaches, school nurses on May 9

Experts from the URMC Sports Concussion Center, a collaboration between URMC Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and the Department of Neurosurgery, will offer a free community event in May to share information about concussion and traumatic brain injury.

The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, at the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Class of ’62 Auditorium, Kornberg Medical Research Building, 415 Elmwood Ave.

Neurosurgeon Jason Huang, M.D., pediatrician Cindy Devore, M.D., and URMC Sports Medicine experts Jim Swenson, M.D., Jeff Bazarian, M.D., Mark Mirabelli, M.D., and Trevor Cramer, A.T.C., will discuss the signs and symptoms of sports-related concussion, as well as interventions for traumatic brain injury. URMC is a regional leader in the diagnosis and treatment of concussion injuries and their treatment, with experienced specialists providing advanced clinical care and research.Food and drinks will be provided, along with free parking for event guests in the lot adjacent to the Kornberg Medical Research Building (corner of Elmwood Avenue and Kendrick Road).
