Fundraiser to Benefit Fertility Program for Cancer Survivors

Strong Fertility Center of the University of Rochester Medical Center will host a Wine Tasting and Silent Auction 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at The Lower Mill, Honeoye Falls, to benefit the Center’s new fertility preservation program.

Childbearing After Recovery (CARE) aims to help couples plan ahead when faced with a cancer diagnosis, so that steps can be taken prior to cancer treatment to help preserve fertility for pregnancy following recovery. The program’s launch coincided with the appointment of Fertility Specialist Adam M. Griffin, M.D., to the Strong Fertility Center team. Griffin oversees the fertility preservation and egg-freezing program to assist cancer patients who face treatment choices that can affect fertility.

Griffin completed a reproductive endocrinology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Boston and served as a clinical instructor in reproductive endocrinology at Harvard Medical School. In Rochester, he is spearheading use of the daVinci robotic system for minimally invasive surgical treatments related to infertility.

Funds raised by the event will help defray the costs of fertility preservation treatments for couples that want to preserve their fertility before undergoing cancer treatments, care that is not covered by most insurance plans. Strong Fertility Center aims to make the service more accessible to couples by creating a fund to help cover the cost of fertility preservation.
