Medical Students Open Envelopes to Their Futures

The wait will soon be over.
For months, senior medical students from the University of Rochester Medical Center’s School of Medicine and Dentistry have been applying to residency programs across the country, going through the interview process, and ranking the hospitals of their choice. The residency programs have also been ranking them. The National Resident Matching Program used a computer algorithm to combine the two sets of rankings. On Friday at noon, URMC students will find out the results during the much-anticipated Match Day celebration.
WHAT: Match Day at URMC School of Medicine and Dentistry
WHEN: Friday, March 15
TIME:Noon
LOCATION: Saunders Research Building atrium, 265 Crittenden Boulevard
There are 102 URMC students being matched this year. By participating in the match system, a student is obligated to attend the residency program where he or she is matched. Residencies last from three to seven years, depending on the medical specialty chosen by the student.
URMC will be tweeting throughout the celebration, using the hashtag #URMCMatch. The Association of American Medical Colleges will be tweeting about Match Day across the country, using the hashtags #Match2013 and #MatchDay.
