UR Medicine Launching Services at Eastside YMCA

Jul. 29, 2015
UR Medicine Primary Care providers Jessica Ferger, M.D., and Laura Gift, D.O., begin seeing patients Aug. 3.

A unique collaboration between UR Medicine and the YMCA of Greater Rochester, several years in the making, is set to become reality as the first health care services provided by UR Medicine open Monday, Aug. 3, in the newly expanded Eastside Family YMCA in Penfield.

The relationship developed out of a mutual desire to create a health and wellness complex that provides the community an easy-to-access location where everyone, from infants to seniors, can benefit from a more complete spectrum of wellness and health care, said Peter Robinson, University of Rochester Medical Center vice president and chief operating officer.

“We are thrilled to see this wellness hub – the first of its kind in our region, at one of the largest YMCAs in the United States – open for all community members,” Robinson said. “Both organizations share the same mission to promote health and wellness, so working together to help community members reach their wellness goals makes perfect sense.”

UR Medicine occupies 6,000 square feet of the YMCA’s new addition (the Y opened its space in the spring), to offer services such as primary care for children and adults through the new Medical Associates of Penfield practice, nutrition and lifestyle programs, weight loss programs, flu vaccination clinics, and biometric screenings. Providers will represent a wide range of departments and programs, including UR Medicine Primary Care, the University of Rochester School of Nursing, and the Center for Community Health’s Healthy Living Center.

Primary Care providers Laura Gift, D.O., and Jessica Ferger, M.D., will begin seeing patients Monday, with additional services available over the next few months, including a weight loss program offered by the Healthy Living Center and a physician-led nutrition and lifestyle program developed by Primary Care. Both debut mid-August.

Individuals seeking a new primary care physician may call (585) 784-8891. More information about the UR Medicine services at the Eastside Family YMCA can be found on the UR Medicine-YMCA Collaboration website: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/ymca.

These new services will be open to all community members – you don’t have to be a Y member to take advantage of them. A new entrance, separate from the current YMCA main entrance, leads right into the UR Medicine offices, providing easy access to those seeking care.
