URMC Takes Ownership of Former Lakeside Property
The University of Rochester Medical Center officially closed on Lakeside Health System’s property in Brockport on Wednesday, taking ownership of the former Lakeside Memorial Hospital facility and ushering in a new chapter in health care for Brockport-area physicians and patients.
“The Board of Directors for Lakeside Health System is excited to welcome Strong West to Brockport,” said board chair Nancy Plews. “We want to thank all in our community who have expressed their support along the way and we are delighted that we are, once again, going to have high-quality health care on the former Lakeside campus. I am personally grateful to Brad Berk and his URMC team for working so diligently to make this happen so quickly.”
“Throughout this process we’ve been impressed with the remarkable support of the Lakeside board, Brockport physicians and the community at large,” said URMC CEO Bradford C. Berk, M.D., Ph.D. “We are working round the clock to get services restored.”
The newly named URMC Strong West now consists of:
- The facility that housed the former Lakeside Memorial Hospital, 156 West Ave., Brockport;
- The physician office building adjacent to the hospital;
- The primary care practices of Vladimir Gaspar, M.D., and Didem Miraloglu, M.D., located in LeRoy and the physician office building, respectively;
- Strong Urgent Care, 42 Nichols St., Spencerport.
On Sept. 3, URMC Strong West plans to open a new urgent care center in the West Avenue location, supported by laboratory and imaging services. Until urgent care services are available there, patients are welcome to visit Strong Urgent Care in Spencerport.
URMC is pursuing Department of Health approval for a full-service, freestanding Emergency Department and an ambulatory surgery center at the West Avenue location for early 2014. Urgent care services will continue to be available after the new Emergency Department opens.
Lakeside continues to own and operate its Beikirch Care Center.
