Current Neonatal - Perinatal Medicine Fellows Welcome party for our first year fellows (2014) Current Fellows Third Year Fellow Jayson Lingan, M.D. Jayson’s hometown is Tuguegarao City, Cagayan in the Philippines. He joined our fellowship program after completing his pediatric residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. His research interests include patent ductus arteriosus and pulmonary hypertension. Jayson enjoys traveling, biking and running. Third Year Fellow Christina Sollinger, M.D. Christina’s hometown is Madison, WI. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Christina’s research interests include neonatal lung development and injury in relationship to oxygen exposure and mechanical stress. Outside the fellowship, she enjoys yoga, zumba, downhill skiing, and spending time on Canandaigua Lake with her husband’s family. Third Year Fellow Sarah Volz, D.O. Sarah is from Anchorage, Alaska and completed her pediatric residency at Good Samaritan Hospital and Winthrop University in West Islip, NY. Her research interests include effects of prematurity and nutrition predisposing patients to obesity, education, and simulation training/research. Outside of the fellowship, she enjoys downhill skiing, salmon and halibut fishing, softball, volleyball, the outdoors and photography. Second Year Fellow Javed Mannan, M.D., M.P.H. Javed was born and raised in Douglaston, NY. He completed his undergraduate degree at Boston University and received his Medical Degree and Masters of Public Health from St. Georges University, Grenada. Javed completed his pediatric residency at NY Methodist Hospital in Park Slope Brooklyn. His research interests include hyperbilirubinemia and the late preterm infant. Outside of his fellowship, he plays electric base guitar and loves playing basketball, tennis and bike riding. Second Year Fellow Shanley Sifain, M.D. Shanley's hometown is Lockport, NY. She attended medical school at SUNY at Buffalo and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Her research interests include understanding how inflammation alters the developing lung. Outside of her fellowship, she enjoys camping, hiking, rock climbing, gardening, painting, and traveling. But most of all, she enjoys spending time with her husband Andrew, her son Liam, dog Daks and cat Frankie. Second Year Fellow James Thomas, M.D. James and his family are from Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and completed his pediatric residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center. His research interests include neonatal resuscitation training in low resources settings and public health. Dr. Thomas loves spending time with his wife and three kids – hiking, camping, biking and rock climbing. First Year Fellow Yukiko Miura, M.D. Dr. Miura was born and raised in a small town called Kota in central Japan. She graduated from University of Maine with Bachelors in Music and International Affairs, and attended medical school at American University of the Caribbean in St. Maarten. She completed residency in pediatrics at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY. Her research interests include understanding how maternal nutritional status affects the fetal and neonatal health. Outside of fellowship, she enjoys occasional trip home to Japan and relaxing at home with her husband and three daughters. First Year Fellow Laura Price, M.D. Dr. Price is originally from the Syracuse area. She graduated from Wellesley College before returning to NY State to attend medical school at SUNY Stony Brook. She completed her pediatrics residency and chief residency here at University of Rochester Medical Center. Following residency she worked in a local private practice for two years while also working as a hospitalist in our NICU. Since then she has worked as a Newborn Nursery and NICU hospitalist full-time before finally deciding to apply for a NICU fellowship. Her research interests include neurologic development in IDM. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys skiing, biking, a variety of home improvement projects, and spending time with her nieces.
