Dr. Guillet is a neonatologist with primary interests in the care and treatment of newborns with early brain injury and neonatal kidney injury. She collaborates with colleagues across the country and around the world with similar interests. She is experienced in clinical trial design and serves on multiple data safety monitoring committees to help assure the appropriate conduct of clinical trials. In addition, Dr. Guillet oversees Medical Center faculty development programs for both early and later stage career faculty and is involved in departmental mentoring of both trainees and faculty.

Dr. Guillet has an active clinical research program focusing on both neonatal brain and kidney. Both organ systems may be vulnerable during times of rapid maturational change and may be at risk from the effects of both intra- and extra-uterine insults. She is involved in several NICHD Neonatal Research Network studies as well as a member of the Board of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative. Dr. Guillet is involved in helping develop clinical studies focused on acute kidney injury in neonates. Other areas of clinical research interest include the auditory brainstem evoked response and its use as a tool to evaluate brain maturation and its relationship to maternal iron status prior to delivery. She has supported the research activities of several trainees in areas as diverse as metabolic bone disease of prematurity, the effect of prenatal NSAIDs on neonatal kidney function in extremely premature neonates, osteopathic manipulative medicine to decrease risk of adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes, and the use of EEG to identify neonates at risk for long term effects of prenatal exposure to opiates and to assess brain maturation in infants of diabetic mothers. Her work is supported in part by grants from the NIH, PCORI, and the Gerber Foundation.
