Dr. Baldwin is the Founding Director of the Academic Pediatric Association's Educational Scholars Program (ESP), a faculty development program for academic pediatricians that aims to teach scholars how to develop, implement, evaluate and disseminate educational interventions or evaluation methods by a creative, planned and rigorous process. Since 2006, the ESP has enrolled 172 scholars and 94 have graduated. The program won the APA Teaching Program Award in 2016. In the context of the ESP, Dr. Baldwin conducts research and evaluation studies on the development of careers in educational scholarship. She has also collaborated on the development of a Toolbox for the Evaluation of Educators, published by the Task Force on Educator Evaluation, Group on Educational Affairs, Association of American Medical Colleges.

Dr. Baldwin served for 5 years on the Academic General Pediatrics Accreditation Committee of the Academic Pediatric Association, developing standardized national guidelines for accreditation of general pediatrics fellowship training programs.

Dr. Baldwin earned her PhD in English from Stanford University. Her work focuses on faculty development in the grant writing and scientific communications, curriculum and evaluation development, and educational scholarship. She has also engaged in many aspects of research education over her career, including grant consultations. Since 1998, Dr. Baldwin has taught yearly courses in scientific writing, given dozens of local and national workshops on scientific writing, and mentored many fellows and faculty in scientific communications. As Director in the Academic Pediatric Association's Educational Scholars Program, she also conducts research and evaluation studies on the development of careers in educational scholarship by junior faculty educators.

Dr. Baldwin continues to mentor junior faculty and fellows across the Department of Pediatrics and teaches writing seminars in the General Pediatrics Fellowship Program. She develops grants at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health General Dentistry Program.

In 2023, Dr. Baldwin began to convert all of her past writing workshops into a 6-module online course that can be used by scholars, institution-wide and potentially nationwide. It is an interactive course, with many practice exercises using “unperfected” writing examples (donated by previous class members). These are offered for learners to analyze and revise, using the skills they have learned, and then compare their revisions with mine. The modules include: 1) Thinking Like a Writer, 2) Writing Sentences: Word Choice and Sentence Structure, 3) Writing Paragraphs: Focus, Order, Sequence, and Continuity, 4) Research Articles from Start to Finish, 5) Writing Winning Grant Proposals, and 6) Becoming a Productive Academic Writer.

In May 2006, Dr. Baldwin launched the APA’s Educational Scholars Program (ESP), which is offered to all APA members. This program accepts pediatric faculty educators from institutions nationwide for a three-year curriculum with mentored projects in educational scholarship. It has enrolled 235 scholars between 2006 and 2024, and has graduated scholars in 9 cohorts. The average graduation rate is 80%. Four other scholars programs based on the ESP model have since been created.
