The substantial need to develop and target effective mental health interventions for underserved and traumatized populations underpins the academic path I have taken. Over the last ten years, my research has focused on the impact of stress among underserved and understudied communities exposed to trauma. My long term goal is to identify interventions that target the cognitive and emotion dysregulation that perpetuates posttraumatic stress symptoms and their health consequences. Specifically, I aim to adapt interventions informed by biological markers that underlie cognitive and emotion regulation using community-based participatory research methods among survivors of interpersonal violence.
