Dr. Lowenguth is originally from Albany, New York. She graduated magna cum laude from Siena College in Loudonville, New York with a BS in biology. Following college graduation from Siena College, she attended SUNY at Buffalo’s School of Dental Medicine, graduating at the top of her class.
During dental school, she was actively involved in scientific research and was awarded the Oral Biology Fellowship, academic achievement award from the American Association of Women’s Dentists, and was the recipient of the Outstanding Student Award in Periodontics from the American Academy of Periodontology. After meeting her husband Dr. Mark Lowenguth, a native of Rochester, in dental school, she abandoned her plans to move to the West Coast and came to Rochester to study Periodontics at Eastman Dental Center. Additionally, she received a grant from NIDR for masters training at the University of Rochester. This grant was awarded to select students throughout the country in order to educate scientists, teachers and researchers in dentistry.

Served as a full-time faculty member at Eastman Dental Center (EDC) Department of Periodontics from 1989-98 (involved in education of periodontal graduate students)
