Biography

Dr. Powers main clinical interests are Cardiac Critical Care and Pain Management in Pediatric patients.

Research

Dr. Powers has been active in investigating the effects of parental presence during invasive procedures. As a result of this work, she was invited to serve on the task force sponsored by the Society for Critical Care Medicine to establish family centered guidelines in the intensive care environment. Dr. Powers was a primary author of the recommendations that stemmed from this work.

She has served as Primary Investigator for comparing Fick and Costatus cardiac output techniques on patients undergoing cardiac catheterization as well as the effects of that diuresis has on circulating blood volumes. She continues to collaborate with Dr. Jill Cholette on blood utilization on infants and children with congenital heart disease.
