Biography

Dr. Guillet provides care to ill newborns who require neonatal intensive care. She is most interested in the care and treatment of newborns with early brain injury and seizures and collaborates with colleagues around the world with similar interests. She is also a member of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative, an international group of neonatologists and pediatric nephrologists who are interested in neonatal kidney injury.

Research

Dr. Guillet has an active clinical research program focusing on both neonatal brain and kidney. Both organ systems may be vulnerable during times of rapid maturational change and may be at risk from the effects of both intra- and extra-uterine insults. As the Rochester co-investigator for the NICHD Neonatal Research Network grant, she assists the PI and is responsible for network studies involving new treatments for neonatal brain injury. She is also a co-investigator for a PCORI-funded investigation of treatment of neonatal seizures. As a member of the Board of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative and co-chair of the Research Committee, Dr. Guillet is involved in and responsible for helping develop clinical studies focused on acute kidney injury in neonates. Other areas of clinical research interest include the auditory brainstem evoked response, its use as a tool to evaluate brain maturation and its relationship to maternal iron status prior to delivery, and the use of EEG to identify neonates at risk for long term effects of prenatal exposure to opiates. Her work is supported in part by grants from the NIH, PCORI, and the Gerber Foundation.
