Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Tanny is an Assistant Professor of Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics.

Dr. Tanny originally came to the University of Rochester as an undergraduate, where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Physics and Astronomy at the River Campus. He earned his Doctorate in Physics in 2015 at the University of Toledo focusing on radiation shielding and small field dosimetry for radiation oncology. Dr. Tanny has worked as a Therapeutic Medical Physicist and Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.

Research

Dr. Tanny has been a part of many aspects of radiation oncology research. He has published papers on radiation shielding, small-field dosimetry, electron radiation, and patient outcomes relating to advanced treatment techniques, such as respiratory gating and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).

Dr. Tanny is interested in radiation oncology workflow and harnessing big data techniques on electronic medical record technologies to improve clinical evidence for patient outcomes.
