Gynecology Oncology at Highland Hospital

Leading the State In Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery

Highland Hospital is a trusted provider of gynecologic care, and one of the preeminent centers of its kind in New York State. Highland leads the state in the number of minimally invasive, robotic surgeries for gynecologic cancer performed each year.

The Joint Commission – the nation’s top health care accrediting organization – has awarded Highland’s Gynecologic Oncology program the Gold Seal of Approval; this certification demonstrates Highland’s commitment to the highest standards of excellence for uterine and ovarian cancer. Certification is based on compliance with national standards, effective use of evidence-based practices and an organized approach to measure performance and improvement. Highland’s Gynecologic Oncology program also has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the region’s best.

Highland has been performing robotic surgeries since 2008; its gynecologic oncology surgeons were the first in the area to provide minimally invasive options for gynecologic conditions. Because incisions are much smaller, robotic surgery has reduced patients’ pain and their recovery time. Traditional hysterectomy requires a three- to four-day stay in the hospital. With robotic hysterectomy, the length of stay drops to one day.

All the resources a woman needs for treatment are available at Highland – an experienced team of gynecologic oncologists who provide surgery and oncology treatment, and care for patients throughout their cancer care; an operating room team specially trained in robotic surgery; and a dedicated women’s inpatient unit for recovery.
