Your Healthcare Team

At Golisano Children’s Hospital, you will meet many different people. They all work together to help you get better!

Healthcare TeamDoctors

Doctors at the hospital have lots of jobs! And there are many different kinds of doctors. Which ones you get to meet will depend on why you have come to the hospital and how long you stay. They will come into your room and talk to you and your parents. They will listen to your heart and lungs and check out other parts of your body as needed. The doctors talk to each other and the rest of the team to make a plan for getting you better.

Nurses

The nurses are very busy at the hospital. One will come into your room to check on you several times each day, and can be called anytime you need one by using a special button by your bed. The nurse is the one who will give you your medicine and make sure that the plan you made with your doctor will happen.

Healthcare TeamSocial Workers

Being in the hospital can be hard. You and your parents can talk with a social worker about your feelings and things that might be worrying you.

Child Life Specialists

A Child Life Specialist can help you have more fun and be less scared while in the hospital. Some children want to do crafts, play games or go to the playroom.  If you cannot leave your room, you may want an activity to do in your bed. A Child Life Specialist can help! She can also help if you have worries about tests or procedures.

Because we are a teaching hospital (kind of like a school), we have lots of students around. You may see medical students, nursing students, etc. These are people who are working hard to learn about taking care of children like you. They will always have regular doctors, nurses, etc. helping them.
