Our Services & Programs
Our Services & Programs
We provide comprehensive care for children with respiratory conditions, including inpatient, outpatient, and consultation services. Children may be referred to a pediatric pulmonologist for breathing problems identified at or shortly after birth, or later in childhood. We also offer several multidisciplinary clinics and collaborate closely with other pediatric specialties. A list of our available clinics is provided below.
Specialized Clinics
Aerodigestive
Our Aerodigestive Clinic cares for children with complex conditions that affect both breathing and digestion. The term "aerodigestive" refers to conditions involving both the respiratory tract (lungs and airways) and the digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, and intestines). Because these systems are closely connected, problems in one can often affect the other. Our multidisciplinary approach brings together specialists, including pediatric pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, otolaryngologists (ear, nose, and throat), speech pathologists, respiratory therapists, and other specialists, to provide coordinated, comprehensive care for your child. Learn more about our Aerodigestive Collaboration.
Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD)
Our Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) Clinic cares for children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, a chronic lung condition that typically affects premature infants who needed breathing support after birth. BPD happens when a baby’s lungs develop abnormally, which results in ongoing breathing challenges as they grow. Our team helps children with BPD manage their lung health, respiratory symptoms, and any other related complications as they grow and develop. Our clinic provides a multidisciplinary approach that includes pediatric lung specialists, gastroenterologists, nutrition experts, and social workers to provide coordinated care and support for your family.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
The Cystic Fibrosis Center, accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), is dedicated to caring for pediatric patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), a genetic condition affecting the lungs and digestive system. The clinic provides comprehensive, ongoing care focused on disease management and improving quality of life. Care is delivered through a multidisciplinary team that includes pediatric pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, respiratory therapists, social workers, nutritionists, genetic counselors, and other specialists.
Newborn Screening for Cystic Fibrosis
Neuromuscular
Our Neuromuscular Clinic provides specialized care for children with neuromuscular conditions that affect breathing and overall respiratory health, such as muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, and congenital myopathies. Our multidisciplinary team includes pediatric pulmonologists, neurologists, physical therapists, and respiratory therapists who work closely together to create a personalized care plan for each child. The clinic focuses on helping children breathe more comfortably, prevent respiratory complications, and improve their quality of life as they grow and develop.
Severe Asthma
Focused on supporting pediatric pulmonary patients with severe asthma. Asthma is a chronic condition that affects the airways, making them inflamed and narrowed, leading to difficulty breathing. While asthma is common, some children experience more severe symptoms that are difficult to control with standard treatments. This clinic provides a multidisciplinary approach, including pediatric pulmonologists, allergists, respiratory therapists, social work, and other specialists. Learn more about how we treat asthma from infancy through adolescence.
Sickle Cell
Our Sickle Cell Clinic cares for children with sickle cell disease (SCD) who have lung or breathing problems. Sickle cell disease is an inherited condition where the red blood cells are abnormally shaped (like a crescent or "sickle"), which can cause blockages in blood flow and lead to various health problems. These children have a higher risk of breathing complications. This clinic provides a multidisciplinary approach, including pediatric pulmonologists, hematologists, respiratory therapists, and other specialists.
Trach/Vent
Our Pediatric Tracheostomy & Home Ventilator Program provides specialized care for children who need long-term breathing support, such as a tracheostomy or ventilator. These children typically have complex medical conditions involving the lungs, heart, or nervous system that require the use of a tracheostomy tube (an opening in the neck that allows a child to breathe through a tube) and/or mechanical ventilation (a machine that helps them breathe), and may also need feeding tubes for nutrition. We work closely with families to provide coordinated, compassionate care through a team of experts—including pediatric pulmonologists, ear, nose and throat providers, gastroenterologists, respiratory therapists, social workers, palliative care providers, speech therapists, and other specialists.
Program for Technology-Dependent Children
Children who are considered technology-dependent have chronic respiratory insufficiency or failure and require specialized medical equipment to support their lives. Learn more about the Program for Technology-Dependent Children
