William and Margaret Levine Simulation Center
William and Margaret Levine Simulation Center
Through simulation, we are dedicated to increasing the quality of care and patient safety, and to educating healthcare professionals.

Simulation can be used to create realistic scenarios to:
- Identify latent safety threats related to new equipment, processes, and spaces before they impact patients
- Re-enact real patient scenarios to learn from them
Simulation gives participants the opportunity to apply knowledge:
- Where they work
- With the people they work with
- Using communication strategies that they aren’t sure will work well
Simulation gives participants the opportunity to acquire knowledge:
- Via open-minded debriefing strategies
- From their team members as well as from facilitators
Our simulation program is uniquely co-led by a nurse and a physician who collaborate as equals. Unlike traditional hierarchies, neither role is above the other. We operate with mutual respect and shared leadership. This partnership fosters a more inclusive, balanced learning environment where diverse perspectives strengthen the program and benefit all participants.
About the Simulation Center
- Located in GCH
- Two bedspaces modeled after pediatric ICU beds
- Perfect for in-situ and just-in-time training
- A control room with a one-way mirror to keep fidelity high and minimize distractions
- A-V equipment with recording capabilities and ability to watch simulations remotely in real time
- Fully stocked and functional with bedside carts, emergency carts, clean supply closets, and pyxis.
Our Ground Rules in Simulation
- Be Open—Try, listen, and be curious
- Be Kind—Assume the best in everyone
- Be Real—Treat the sim like real life
- Be Respectful—What happens in sim, stays in sim
Simulation Types
Remember—simulation simply means re-creating real-life situations for practice and learning.
- Task trainers
- Standardized Patient scenarios (partner with CEL)
- "Tabletop" scenarios
- Mock Codes
- Systems Tests
- High-fidelity mannequins:
- Sim-man 3G Plus
- Sim-baby
- Sim-newB
- Paul (premature baby mannequin)

Our Work in Action
Our Values
- Mutual Learning & Respect: We foster an environment where everyone learns from and respects one another.
- Positive Assumptions: We believe every individual is intelligent, capable, and committed to improvement, encouraging curiosity over criticism. (TM CMS)
- Inclusive Leadership: We empower and value leadership roles beyond physicians, recognizing diverse expertise.
- Collaborative Education: We break down silos through intentional co-learning to enhance teamwork and knowledge sharing.
- Excellence & Safety: We train facilitators to ensure consistent simulation experiences, uphold best practices, and prioritize psychological safety.
