Rochester River Run/Walk 5K set for April 11

Mar. 18, 2010
Organ Transplant Program Fundraiser is Nine Years and Going Strong

Individuals and teams are invited to participate in the ninth annual Friends of Strong Rochester River Run/Walk 5K on Sunday, April 11, at the Roundhouse Shelter at Genesee Valley Park.
Hundreds of patients receive organ transplants each year at the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Strong Memorial Hospital and many need assistance as they await operations, as well as after transplant. In addition to current organ recipients, Strong provides ongoing care for patients who continue to travel to Rochester for medical care related to their transplant. Money raised through the Friends of Strong and Rochester River Run/Walk will help patients who need emergency financial assistance. Last year’s event raised $7,000, bringing the overall total to more than $46,000 since the event was started in 2001. More than $2,000 in prizes were awarded to race participants in 2009.
Pre-registration fees for Rochester River Run/Walk 5K are $20 for runners, $15 for walkers and $40 for a family of four walkers. Pre-registration forms must be submitted by Thursday, April 8. The day of the event, registration will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Roundhouse Shelter at Genesee Valley Park. Fees that day increase to $25 for runners, $20 for walkers and $50 for a family of four walkers. All registration forms and race packets are available online or can be picked up at participating sponsor, Fleet Feet Sports, 2210 Monroe Ave.
Raffle tickets for deluxe gift baskets will also be on sale at Strong Memorial Hospital, April 1, 2, 8 and 9, and at the race location on the day of the event. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5.
The Rochester River Run/Walk 5K course is certified to be accurate by USATDF/RRTC #NY04017KL and computerized racing results will be available.
