RECRUITMENT PAUSED - Fall Volunteer Program Currently Full
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us!
Unfortunately, a historically limited number of volunteer opportunities are available at this time and all of our volunteer information sessions are currently full. However, we encourage you to add your name to our Volunteer Interest Waitlist and we will reach out to you if additional information sessions are scheduled.
Please review our COVID-19 vaccination policy below and then click on the Volunteering button for detailed information about each of our volunteer programs and a link to our waitlist.
IMPORTANT COVID-19 Vaccination Info for Prospective Volunteers
The following update provides more details on the COVID vaccination requirement for all Friends of Strong volunteers, and the vaccination deadlines that must be met in order to volunteer with Strong Memorial Hospital.
The University of Rochester (Strong Memorial Hospital) requires all volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and need to provide proof of vaccination prior to beginning their service. This also includes volunteers who will be serving at off-site UR Medicine locations.
Individuals cannot commence volunteer activities until the point of being fully vaccinated, which is two weeks following the final dose of a vaccine!
This means that you are only considered fully vaccinated after at least two weeks (14 days) have passed since you received the second dose in a 2-dose series vaccine; or at least two weeks have passed since receiving a single dose of a 1-dose vaccine.
For example: If you apply to volunteer with us and are accepted with a start date of Sept. 8, then:
*You will have needed to receive the second dose of a 2-dose vaccine (or a single dose of a 1-dose vaccine) no later than Aug. 25.
*And you will have needed to receive the first dose of a 2-dose vaccine no later than Aug. 4.
Therefore, if you are interested in volunteering with Friends of Strong this fall, you should consider beginning the vaccination process as soon as possible. While it is unlikely that your volunteer start date will be this early, you also do not want to delay/miss out on the selection of your volunteer role options because you are not yet fully vaccinated at the time your preferred role begins.
Getting the Vaccine
Interested volunteers can take advantage of the many COVID-19 vaccination locations in the region, including local pharmacies. In the Rochester area, the Finger Lakes Vaccine Hub continues to provide resources and information on the various locations that offer the vaccines as early as today.
What is Friends of Strong?
We're a dynamic volunteer organization advancing the mission of Strong Memorial Hospital. Each year, nearly 1,500 volunteers serve approximately 130,000 hours by:
- Enhancing the health care experience for patients, families and visitors throughout Strong Memorial Hospital and at many of our offsite clinic locations
- Promoting the hospital throughout our community
- Raising money to support patient care programs and initiatives
We invite you to help us support and serve our patients, families and visitors.
There are many ways you can join us in fulfilling our mission—from assisting in our Family Waiting Room, to working with patients directly at one of our offsite clinic locations, or simply attending or helping to organize one of our many fundraising events.
Our volunteers, supporters and employees are wonderful people who truly—and meaningfully—make a difference in patients' lives. We take the opportunity to boast about them whenever we can.
