Current Research
The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology strives to provide the most up to date care for patients with conditions affecting the immune system and musculoskeletal health. We participate in basic/translational and clinical research focusing on components of the health of the musculoskeletal and immune systems in order to understand and care for each patient in a focused manner.
Current studies focus on:
- Sex differences in inflammatory arthritis
- Mechanistic causes of arthritis flare
- Use of ultrasound in the care of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions
- Development and study of novel teaching modalities for adult learners who provide care for children with rheumatologic diseases
- Interpretation and incorporation of patient reported outcomes in the care of adolescent patients with rheumatologic diseases
- Optimization of transition to adult rheumatology care for adolescent and young adult patients
- Understanding the etiology and management of amplified musculoskeletal pain
We are an active research center for the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), a pediatric collaborative research organization focusing on rheumatologic conditions. Membership in CARRA also provides networking with other North American pediatric rheumatology centers for research collaboration.
Our leadership and involvement in national research ensure access to state-of-the-art knowledge, diagnostics, and treatments. Patients and their families are key stakeholders in our research.
