Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Lamberti is a Professor of Psychiatry at URMC where he serves Academic Chief of the Community Division, and as Chair of the Research Subject Review Board for Behavioral and Social Sciences. Dr. Lamberti received his MD from the University of Missouri, and completed his psychiatry residency and a neuropsychiatry fellowship at the University of Rochester. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and Board Certified in General Psychiatry. Dr. Lamberti's career is dedicated to developing new treatment and rehabilitation strategies for adults with schizophrenia and other severe mental disorders, especially those at risk for repeated hospitalization, arrest and incarceration. He has written and lectured widely on topics related to community-based mental health services, with a special focus on preventing criminal recidivism and promoting recovery among justice-involved adults with severe mental illness. Dr. Lamberti and his colleagues have conducted numerous clinical drug trials evaluating novel medications for treatment of psychosis and cognitive impairment in schizophrenia and related disorders. With funding support from the National Institute of Mental Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and local sources, he has also led development of the Rochester Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (R-FACT) model. For their work with in developing the R-FACT model, Dr. Lamberti and his colleagues received the 1999 American Psychiatric Association's Gold Award, the 2002 New York State Community Health Improvement Award, and the 2009 NAMI New York State Program Award. Dr. Lamberti is also a recipient of the 2004 APA Van Ameringen Award for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and the 2005 Margaret Van Horn Award for Distinguished Service in Psychiatry.
