What to Expect at Your Team Appointment

Below are some frequently asked questions that can help you prepare for your child’s cleft and craniofacial team appointment.

Where is the Team Clinic Located?

Your appointment will be at Strong Memorial Hospital on the first floor, AC-1. Please park in the parking garage and as you enter the hospital through the main lobby, take the first hallway on your left and check-in at the second clinic area called “Pediatric Specialties.”

Which Providers Will I See at the Team Appointment?

Your child will be evaluated by the team’s Plastic Surgeon, Psychologist or Social Worker, Pediatric Dentist, Orthodontist, Genetics Counselor, ENT Provider, Audiologist, Speech-Language Pathologist, and Pediatric Sleep Medicine Doctor.

How Long is the Team Appointment?

The appointment typically takes between 1.5 and 2 hours. Please feel free to bring snacks, drinks, and toys to help keep your child comfortable during the appointment.

Do All of the Team Providers Come in the Exam Room at the Same Time to Evaluate My Child?

No, your child will be evaluated by each provider one at a time. Once all of the providers have rotated through, your appointment will end, and the providers will sit down as a group and discuss recommendations for your child for the coming year. These recommendations will then be mailed to your home and communicated to your child’s pediatrician.

How Often Does My Child Have a Team Appointment?

Typically, your child will see the team one time per year. Sometimes, your child may need a follow-up team appointment sooner than a year, and if so, this recommendation will be communicated to you.

How Do I Schedule My Yearly Team Appointments?

You will receive a phone call or My Chart message from our Team Coordinaor, Liz Huette, when your child is due for their team appointment.
