Types of Procedures We Perform
We offer a wide range of skin procedures for children, including:
- Skin biopsies
- Cryotherapy (freezing)
- Intralesional Steroid injections (ILK)
- Medication administration
- Laser treatments
- Chemical peels
- Curettage
- Removal of skin growths and lesions
- Surgical excisions
Your child's dermatologist will explain the recommended procedure and answer any questions you may have.
Your Child's Care Team
Your child will be cared for by a pediatric dermatology team with expertise in skin conditions affecting children. When needed, we work closely with specialists in laser treatment (Dr. Mara Weinstein Velez), skin and Mohs surgery (Dr. Norhan Shamloul), and pediatric plastic surgery to provide comprehensive care.
How We Prepare for Your Child's Procedure
Every child is different. Before a procedure, we take time to learn about your child's needs, concerns, and comfort level. We will talk with you about what to expect and create a plan that is right for your child and family.
Helping Children Feel Comfortable During Procedures
Helping children feel at ease is an important part of our care. Depending on your child's age and needs, we may use:
- Music, movies, or video games
- Books and sensory toys
- Relaxation and distraction techniques
- Numbing medications
- Buzzy® vibration devices
- Anti-anxiety medications when appropriate
Our goal is to reduce fear, minimize discomfort, and create a positive experience for your child.
Additional Pain Control or Sedation
Some children benefit from extra support during procedures. When needed, we work closely with the Child Life, pain management, and sedation services teams at Golisano Children's to develop a plan that helps make procedures as safe and comfortable as possible.
How We Decide Which Treatment is Right for Your Child
We consider your child's diagnosis, age, treatment needs, and comfort level when developing a care plan. Your child's dermatologist will recommend the procedure, pain management approach, and support services that best fit your child's individual needs.
