After Hours Emergency Eye Care

In the event of an emergency you may either call us directly or ask your primary care physician, optometrist, ophthalmologist or other healthcare provider for a referral. Those not already registered as patient of any UR Medicine department or doctor (this department or doctor can be other than ophthalmology) may be asked to go to the Strong Memorial Hospital Emergency Department depending on the circumstances.

Just call (585) 273-3937. Our answering service will pick-up and take basic patient information from you. The ophthalmology resident on call will be notified and get right back to you. The resident will discuss symptoms related to your emergency.  If the resident on call determines that your emergency does not require x-rays, MRI or other diagnostic imaging, you will be seen in our out-patient clinic located at 210 Crittenden Boulevard in Rochester NY. If you need diagnostic imaging, you will be seen in the Strong Memorial Hospital Emergency Department where the ophthalmology resident will meet you.

The resident on call is a capable, licensed physician who is supported by an attending ophthalmologist who is also on call. If you should need specialized care or surgery, the appropriate specialist will be consulted for you.
