Eastman Institute for Oral Health
The Social Work program within the Eastman Institute for Oral Health focuses on the resolving longstanding social problems related to oral care; many of the patients struggle with family issues, unreliable transportation, insufficient food, shelter and cultural/ language differences. This program utilizes a biopsychosocial model to address and facilitate in eliminating the gaps in patient care and resident education in an academic dental environment. The Social Work contributions in the dental setting include resident/faculty education on critical psychosocial issues related such as child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, and development and implementation of grant funded projects to address oral health disparities.
