Biography

Dr. Saubermann's clinical interest is centered on taking care of adolescents and adults with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, such as Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac Sprue(gluten sensitive enteropathy), and microscopic /lymphocytic colitis, though he also sees patients with a variety of gastrointestinal and liver related illnesses. As part of the complex care required by these patients, he utilizes a multidisciplinary approach that sometimes involves rheumatologists, pathologists, dermatologists radiologists, ophthalmologist, and surgeons. Through his clinical trial work, he also provided access to advanced treatments that are being tested in the treatment of these disorders.

Professional Background

Dr. Lawrence Saubermann is a Gastroenterologist at Strong Memorial Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Research

Dr. Saubermann is interested in the intestinal mucosal immune system, and how it is involved in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, such as Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Microscopic/lymphocytic colitis, and Celiac Sprue. He has a number of projects related to inflammatory bowel disease, including clinical research trials with new biologic agents, testing for novel serologic markers of disease activity, and examining the effects of environmental toxins on the mucosal immune system. He is collaborating with other clinical and basic science researchers throughout the university to better understand the mechanisms behind the disease and develop new therapies. In addition, he participates as a co-investigator on a longitudinal countywide database study of inflammatory bowel disease subjects.
