Biography

I love pediatric surgery. Pediatric surgery allows me to get to know patients and families, sometimes during their hardest moments, and to work to improve the health and wellness of infants, children, and adolescents.

I strive to treat all patients and families with a teamwork approach, in which we all work together to provide the best outcome for the child. I believe that inclusive, multidisciplinary care for the whole patient (body and mind) is a key to success in today's healthcare environment. I promise to give my very best to help you and your child through whatever challenges you are facing.

Areas of Expertise (Clinical):

* Pediatric general and thoracic surgery
* Pediatric minimally invasive surgery
* Congenital neonatal diseases
* Management of pectus carinatum and excavatum

Areas of Expertise (Research):

* Computational imaging, 3D modeling
* Biomechanics
* Statistics, experimental design
* Device development

Engineering and pediatric surgery are naturally paired specialties – in addition to a pediatric surgeon, I am also a biomedical engineer. The complex and ever-changing nature of clinical pediatric surgery offers the chance to improve the lives of children by taking challenges we experience in the clinical setting into the laboratory environment to help create better solutions. To that end, I direct the Pediatric Surgery Structure-Function Laboratory. My mission is to create an environment aimed at developing novel tools that will improve the practice of pediatric surgery with a focus on computational imaging and machine learning technology.

I take pride in teaching and mentoring the next generation. My work and my lab support medical students, graduate students, residents, and other trainees with an interest in pediatric surgery and/or biomedical engineering.
